We play. We love to play. Games are interactive in a fundamental way: you control the action, and you affect the story.

In electronic games, this interaction is foregrounded and expanded; in multiplayer online gaming this interaction is multiplied.

Players can imagine themselves as ‘creatures of a…world of multiple possibilities’ (Murray 2006).

In this lecture we explore the degree to which narrative is usurped by spectacle and immersion in electronic games.
